About this Retreat

Green Tara, the “Mother of All Buddhas,” offers boundless support in overcoming fear, dissolving inner and outer obstacles, and awakening the courageous heart. Throughout this weekend, Jetsunma will lead participants through the essential practice of Green Tara, from the practice composed by Pegyal Lingpa (a close teacher of Tulku Sangak Rinpoche.)

Led by Jetsunma Jamyang Palmo, whose teachings bridge ancient wisdom with modern relevance, this retreat is both a spiritual refuge and a call to compassionate action. Whether you are new to Buddhist practice or seeking to deepen an existing connection, this weekend offers a rare opportunity to engage directly with Tara’s transformative presence in a container of peace, beauty, and guidance.

This is a hybrid program.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a Buddhist to attend this retreat?
No, this retreat is open to anyone who may be interested in receiving Green Tara teachings.

What is an empowerment?
An empowerment (Sanskrit: abhisheka) is a ceremony where a qualified lama connects a recipient with a specific deity (or deities) and their associated practices. It is considered the gateway into Vajrayana practice. It involves commitment to work with the teacher who gives the empowerment as well as a commitment to that certain practice.

Do I have to take the empowerment?
No, you do not. This is an optional offering for those attending in-person who are clear about following the Vajrayana Path. It also bestows blessings onto the participant, empowering them to engage with that practice. An empowerment involves taking refuge vows, bodhisattva vows, and tantric vows.
Note: Students must attend in-person to take the empowerment. Online participants are welcome to witness the ceremony virtually and support their sangha members.

Do I need to be a Buddhist to receive this empowerment?
If you choose to take this empowerment, you do not need to have already been a Buddhist. However, taking the empowerment will commit you to the Vajrayana Buddhist path.

What type of diet will we eat during this retreat?
The food served at the Namchak Retreat Ranch for this retreat will be strictly vegetarian.

If I miss a session, will I have access to the recording?

Yes, this retreat will be recorded.

Will we be doing a khata ceremony or offering dana?

At the end of the teachings, you will have the opportunity to participate in a khata ceremony with Jetsunma. This is a Tibetan ritual that we practice at the end of a teaching where you present a white scarf to your teacher to show your respect, appreciation, and well-wishes. Namchak will provide khatas, although you are also welcome to bring your own. During this ceremony, you are also welcome to present an offering, or dana, to your teacher. It could be anything from a monetary offering to a physical gift. What matters most is that it comes from your heart, however small or large the offering is. It is also important that what you offer helps to unravel your sense of grasping, even just a little bit.
